As all delegates gave ardent opening speeches about the severity of the food and humanitarian crisis currently going on in the country of Yemen, the stage was set for an exhilarating debate in RCA.
The members of the committee, which included regional directors of various continents, government officials, and USGs had an intriguing discussion on how to strategically implement their ideas. The Regional Director of the Americas’ proposal for the transport of food to Yemen from the UK, USA, and EU, was opposed by a more structured response by the Regional Director of Africa who instead felt that the transport of food from Asia, Africa, and the Middle East would help them for an unscathed delivery of these supplies. The UNICEF representative agreed on appropriate funding and this was seconded by the majority.
Other problems that were discussed include the appalling situation of women, especially child-bearing women, the life-threatening situation of children, and the massive percentage of Yemenis living under the poverty line. The USG of Management put forward the idea of a press release that will include sufficient information to restore faith in the hearts of the affected people. The Chair of Compliance also suggested the implementation of psychotherapy and other appropriate medical amenities that would aid the traumatized people. The Regional Director of the Americas also proposed the setting up of temporary hospitals and other medical facilities in the worst affected areas.
The lion’s share of the debate was largely a professional and informative one, excluding one incident, where the Regional Director of Africa acknowledged his bad handwriting on the whiteboard with, “Sorry guys, my handwriting is ass”. Way to spoil the formality!
