The United Nations Security Council meeting really was more like a comedy of ineptitude and misplaced priorities. The Yemeni delegation suddenly veered off to Chinese issues and ranted on the same, clearly being absolutely impolite to the crises at home. This instability was further aggregated by China's diplomat, who called northern Yemen a lost cause, basically giving it away to the Houthi rebels who must in a twist of irony talk with the Yemeni government for stability; this was after they were told off by France of the significance of not abandoning the area to the rebel forces. The US, UK, and Oman's calls for a ceasefire got lost in translation because of Russia's petty vendetta against the US, hypocritically calling for the American exit while supplying the Houthis. Yemen delegate foolishly opposed the claim of China and held onto the impossible idea of a united Yemen. The delegate of Iran added to the fallacy by denying assistance for the Houthis at one point and, at the same time, claiming greater convergence with the UAE and Yemen. The depths of ineptitude were plumbed when the Chinese envoy aggressively exposed the illiteracy of the Yemen envoy, showing complete confusion—if not utter ignorance—from her about the catastrophic condition in her own country. This exposed the decline of the Security Council to unintelligent, inconsistent, and incompetent diplomacy, which failed miserably to address the real issues at hand.
